The student must have a valid bus pass in his/her immediate possession and display the pass to the driver each day.
A citation will be issued to any student who fails to observe the safety rules. The 1st citation is a warning. All subsequent citations will suspend bus privileges and must be signed by parents for their student to return to bus privilege after suspension is over. Depending on the severity of the ticket it could result in automatic suspension.
TIPS FOR STUDENTS AT BUS STOPS
Arrive at your bus stop 5 minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival.
While waiting to board, be orderly, line up in single file, at least 12 feet away from the bus.
Do not approach the bus until the driver opens the bus door.
While exiting, elementary and middle school students MUST cross the street with a driver escort by law. Notify the driver of your need to cross the street.
Always cross in FRONT of a school bus.
Authority Of The Drivers: Title 5 CCR 14103. Students are under the authority of, and responsible directly to the driver of the bus.
Your kindergarten student will not be released without the parent or guardian present at the bus stop. Written permission to release your kindergarten student unsupervised must be on file with the Transportation Department.
Kindergarten students not met at a bus stop or who do not have permission slips will be returned to their school. It will then be the responsibility of the parent to pick up their student.
If your student does not behave respectfully on the bus or at the bus stop, he/she may be suspended from the bus. You will be notified if such action needs to be taken. Depending on the severity of the ticket it could result in automatic suspension.
You must notify Transportation if you have a change of address or phone number.
A written permission slip from the parent is required if your student needs to ride a different bus or get off at a different bus stop. The School site personnel must initial the note before the student can ride that bus. The note is then given to the bus driver. This must be prearranged.
Your student may pick up their bus pass at their school site during the first week of school. After the first week, drivers will distribute the bus pass.
There is a $10.00 replacement fee for lost, stolen, broken or defaced bus passes. Please note 20 Ride Pass is NOT replaceable.
You will be charged for the cost of any willful student damage to the bus or its equipment.
If you discontinue use of school bus service, you must provide written notice of cancellation and turn in the student’s bus pass. A refund will be calculated from the day those are received by Transportation less $10.00 processing fee. Refunds are not available if your student is suspended or removed from the bus transportation service.
To qualify for a free or reduced bus pass the student must be qualified by the Food Service Department for the free or reduced price meals program. If the Food Services Department does not qualify your student for free or reduced price meals for the 2016/17 school year, you do not qualify for free or reduced price bus passes.
All prior year balances for each family must be paid in full in order to receive a bus pass for the new school year.
It is the goal of the Transportation Department to provide transportation for your student in the safest way possible. We need your assistance to successfully accomplish this goal. Please help your student understand the rules for safe riding and recognize their role in maintaining a safe environment on and off the bus.
