PRESS RELEASE— July 19, 2017 — Morgan Hill Unified School District congratulates Debbie Stewart on being named Interim Principal at Los Paseos Elementary School. Ms. Stewart is filling the position temporarily vacated by Mrs. Mittleman who is moving into the Interim Director of Special Education position.
“Debbie has been a natural leader in our schools for over 20 years,” said Superintendent Steve Betando, MHUSD Superintendent. “We are fortunate to have such a valuable community member and dedicated educator excited to step up into a key role to continue the great work that Jenna Mittleman has led for the last 4 years with a shared vision. The highly successful Los Paseos team is already making plans to welcome Debbie into her new role. Jenna will be missed, but I am confident that Los Paseos will continue to thrive under Debbie’s principalship. Staff and parents will quickly get to know Debbie as child-centered, equity-minded educator.”
Debbie has enjoyed a long career in Morgan Hill Unified. She was hired as an elementary teacher for San Martin/Gwinn in 1996 and then moved to Barrett in 2001. Debbie truly embraces life-long learning and has taken on various leadership roles over the years as a member of School Site Council and Curriculum Council, lead teacher, literacy coach, TSN and intern support provider, and facilitator/presenter for staff development at both the site and District level. Debbie has extensive knowledge about early literacy teaching practices and GLAD strategies, and in her instructional coaching position, has supported many of her colleagues as they implemented new curriculum and embraced instructional shifts.
“I am a teacher above all else,” Ms. Stewart said about her position. “But I am inspired by the idea that, as an instructional leader, I can support teachers and students and continue the work of creating dynamic student-centered classrooms.”
Debbie has been an exemplary teacher and leader in Morgan Hill, and we are excited to welcome her to her new position with the Los Paseos community.
